Sensory overload, garish colors, and plastic structures that dominate the landscape are giving way to restraint, the geometry of nature, and functional simplicity. The Polish manufacturer Buglo is launching a new series of playgrounds—Robinia Scandic. This collection is designed for landscape architects, developers, and urban planners who seek harmony, lightness, and an eco-friendly approach to materials in the design of public and commercial spaces.

Less is more—a new philosophy for recreational spaces
Contemporary architecture is increasingly moving toward sustainable development and creating a calmer environment. Urban spaces, residential courtyards, and areas around educational institutions or hotel resorts are now designed with regeneration and the reduction of sensory overload in mind (so-called “sensory-friendly design”). Meanwhile, traditional playgrounds have often become visual “eyesores,” disrupting the cohesion of well-thought-out urban planning concepts.
The answer to this challenge is the Robinia Scandic series—a collection of 30 recreational structures made of natural black locust (acacia) wood, designed in the spirit of Scandinavian minimalism.
“When designing the Robinia Scandic series, we set out to create street furniture that wouldn’t dominate its surroundings but would become a natural extension of them,” says Krzysztof Rembeliński, Head of Design at Buglo. – We asked ourselves: what is the true essence of a playground? It’s not unnecessary decorations or flashy colors, but safe movement, motor development, and inclusion. We opted against excess in favor of clean form and the highest quality natural materials.
Respect for wood and architectural lightness
The series’ main distinguishing feature is its visual delicacy, while maintaining the structure’s full durability and stability. The brand’s designers optimized the cross-sections of the support posts, using elements made from natural black locust trunks with a diameter of 14–16 cm. Combined with openwork rope arrangements and consistent geometry, the structures do not obstruct sightlines or overwhelm the surrounding architecture.
Another interesting aesthetic touch is the subdued color palette. The natural texture of the wood is accented only by a discreet touch of color, serving as a subtle, recognizable signature of the series.
“Landscape architects often face the challenge of integrating a play area into an elegant developer’s courtyard, a historic park, or the grounds of a modern spa hotel without disrupting the overall concept of the project,” notes Krzysztof Rembeliński. “The Scandic series gives designers tremendous freedom. The slender black locust profiles and openwork structure ensure that the equipment blends perfectly with both the raw concrete and glass of modern housing developments and the mature trees in urban parks.”

Versatility of Applications: From Residential Developments to Education and HoReCa
Despite its modest and elegant form, the Robinia Scandic series retains full motor skills functionality. With 30 diverse pieces of equipment—ranging from classic swings and balance beams, through obstacle courses, to towers with slides—it allows for the design of play areas tailored to different age groups.
The series’ flexibility allows it to meet the specific needs of diverse market sectors, such as real estate development, the municipal and public sectors, schools and preschools, and hotels.
From a construction and investment standpoint, durability is key. Acacia wood does not require aggressive pressure-treatment chemicals to withstand decades of harsh weather conditions. “We receive a product compliant with the PN-EN 1176 standard that ages with tremendous elegance,” adds Mariusz Tomsa, Sales and Project Manager at Buglo.
